How You Can Help

The American Legion’s Robert F. McDermott Post 309 is a 501(c)19 nonprofit, all-volunteer, veteran organization. Your donations and sponsorships are tax-deductible. We are only able to carry out our mission of assisting fellow veterans, active duty military, their families, and engaging with the community through the generous donations, volunteered help, and support by members of the community like yourself.

Currently, our most pressing need is for donations to fund the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall and the Cost of Freedom Tributes event to be held at the Helotes Fairgrounds. For information about this event, please click on “Vietnam Memorial Wall” on the drop-down menu under Our Programs. Later, as the event approaches, we will need many volunteers to help with setting up and tearing down the displays.

A fun opportunity where you can help is to support our American Legion Riders’ fundraiser every fourth Friday evening of the month at their Pork Chop Night dinner. This sit-down dinner (or take home if you prefer) consists of an inch and a quarter thick smoked pork chop, Texas-sized baked potato, vegetable, salad, dinner roll, and dessert for only a $20 donation. The pork chops are smoked on site, the day of the dinner, with the baked potatoes and vegetables also prepared that day on site. We invite you to come out and join us for a meal and fellowship with veterans and friends. The dinner is served from 6-9 pm at the VFW Post 7108, with whom we are collocated, located at 8795 FM-1560, San Antonio, Texas.

More importantly, if you are a veteran needing assistance, or you know of a veteran
struggling, please contact our post Service Officer, Rand, at (210) 867-4467 or
RandMS@aol.com We are here to help.
